Crowne Plaza Helsinki – Finland’s Leading Hotel 2009
International recognition for Restel’s flagship for the second year running
The annual World Travel Awards, considered to be the Oscars of the travel industry, convened this year in Óbidos, Portugal. The gathering, held for the 16th time, attracted 167,000 travel industry professionals from 160 countries to jointly select the best that the travel industry has to offer in each country. The title of Finland’s Leading Hotel 2009 was awarded to the Crowne Plaza Helsinki. Crowne Plaza Helsinki was awarded this title in 2008 as well.
In 2005, when the hotel first opened its doors, it immediately began receiving international recognition as the InterContinental Hotels Group granted the hotel the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ title and ‘Torchbearer Award’.
”We are extremely proud of this acknowledgement,” says Saija Savela-Palovaara, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Helsinki. “Receiving this recognition for the second time in a row warms our hearts, especially because we have succeeded in further improving our customer services despite the current challenging economic climate. Praise like this from the international community is a motivating factor for our entire personnel,” Savela-Palovaara adds.
The World Travel Awards are the travel industry’s most prestigious and esteemed recognition, covering the different sectors of the global tourism by region. The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to grant recognition and celebrate distinguished actors within the travel and tourism industry. The nominees in the category of Finland’s Leading Hotel also included the Hotel Kämp, the Hilton Helsinki Strand, Klaus K, and the Scandic Simonkenttä.
